[From GetUp! - Action For Australia - www.getup.org.au]

GetUp! is an Australian Online Advocacy group, that's taken on the job of tackling the stupid policy our Federal Government pushed in the Elections, namely Net Censorship. If the simple fact that Australian Internet services have become the laughing stock of the developed world, this plan would provide even slower services that provide no value at all to the majority of Australians. Add to that the fact that school children have been able to get around the filters in trials to date and you've got to ask yourself why?

Clearly the Federal Government needs to re-think its plans - surely the raft of experts, industry leaders and CEOs of major ISPs that have spoken up. Apart from protecting the "public" from the Internet shouldn't the Federal Government also look at how badly this is going to impact business? Business is doing it tough enough with the credit crunch and the carbon-taxes on the horizon - slowing down their networks and increasing the cost of bandwidth will not help anyone.

The worst bit is none of this will stop anyone that's serious about getting their porn or warez or mp3s or DIVx movies all it will do is put Australia further behind in the Internet game - if you agree go over to GetUp! and sign up!
