Coolest thing I've heard this week...

Technorati Tags: ,

I watched the Peter Jackson version of King Kong last night and have had the features disk playing in the background as I'm working here and this line in the production diaries stood out. At week 30 one of the sound guys casually mentions that "the sound effects library at the moment is about half a terabyte, 50,000 sound effects and around 100,000 files", almost immediately after that Melanie Graham states that she has "hours and hours of sound effects she hasn't had time to get into the library yet because we keep going out and getting more"

Now, I don't know about you guys but thats pretty kewl - when I worked at Beyond International back in the mid-90's we spent a small fortune on Avid edit suites and Pro-Tools setups to go into their dedicated production building in Artarmon that Dr Brett co-ordinated the outfitting of. All up I don't think we had half a terabyte - how times change...

Apparently Dr Brett is at D4 right now, lucky so & so!
