Auctions are dangerous things...
Its hard to explain - you go into an auction with a plan (and if you don't have a plan you're an idiot) that allows for not reaching your reserve, not selling at all or making a killing on the booming property market :) Whatever happens you feel comfortable with the paths you (and your partner) have chosen - and you feel calm right up until that point where you see people arriving for the actual auction.
Well, remember how I said that the auction stuff was pretty boring - it appears that reading about auctions is boring but if you're selling (or buying I'm told) its a heart pounding event.
From this point onwards you notice how warm the weather is, how loud your heart beat is getting and how quickly you're drinking this bottle of water... To top it all off you seem to have developed a case of the jitters and can't even sit still or relax by reading that book you got to kill the time (even though you've been waiting all year to get it). Of course this is the time you should walk outside and look at the view and make sure you really are doing the right thing...
I won't drag you through the heart pounding details of the auction but to say that the amount of stress you go through can't be good for you. My heart didn't stop noticeable pounding until the bidding had passed the reserve and my ability to focus on anything else didn't come back until the property had been sold.
No doubt I will have more thoughts about auctions in the coming days but I had to find and re-install the Photo-Stitch software for my Canon camera so you could all enjoy the view that people were bidding for.
Till next - make sure you bid for want you want and don't regret the things you miss out on because you didn't. Well the day is nearly gone and I feel I've made the most of it, I hope you have too.
